K-Electric bill check online: duplicate bill, 13-digit account number and payment
Get your KE bill free on WhatsApp, SMS 8119, the KE Live app or the website, understand every charge, and avoid the 5% to 10% late payment surcharge.

K-Electric (KE) supplies power to Karachi and its surrounding areas, and unlike the WAPDA companies it runs its own billing system. That means a different bill layout, a different account number and different channels. Our K-Electric page has the company's contacts and bill-check links in one place; this guide explains how to get a duplicate bill, read every line, pay it and fix a wrong one.
The one number you need: your 13-digit account number
KE says the account number is the single most important reference on your bill, and you will be asked for it in every call, SMS or visit. It has 13 digits and starts with a zero (KE's own example is 0400012345678). The bill also shows a contract number and a consumer number, but KE uses those internally only.
Save the account number in your phone the first time you see it. A photo of an old bill works just as well.
Get a duplicate bill: four free ways
- WhatsApp (quickest). Save 0348-0000118 in your contacts and send "Hi". KE's 24/7 WhatsApp service sends the duplicate bill once you give your account number. The same chat lets you register a complaint, check power status and download your income tax certificate.
- KE website. Open KE's Digital Bills & Payments page (ke.com.pk/bills-e-payments), enter your account details, and view or pay the bill.
- KE Live app. Available on Google Play and the App Store. Add your account number once; you can then view and pay bills, track complaints and see load-shedding updates.
- SMS to 8119. Register once by sending
REG <13-digit account number>to 8119. After that, sendBILLto 8119 for your bill details. Without registering, sendBILL <13-digit account number>.
None of these channels charges a fee. Websites that ask you to pay for a "KE duplicate bill" are third parties; you do not need them.
Want the bill by email every month? Fill in KE's Subscribe for E-Billing form on its website, or ask for an e-bill on the WhatsApp number.
Reading the bill, line by line
KE redesigned its bill in August 2025. Here is what the main sections mean.
Customer information box (top right). The "Customer Type" code tells you how your account is classified:
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| NM | Net metering |
| PL | Payment lock |
| Def | Defaulter |
| Ltg | Legal or disputed |
| SI | Standard instalment |
| Adv | Advance customer |
| DET | Theft or irregularity (detection) bill |
If you see Def or DET and you do not know why, contact KE straight away (see below).
Bill calculation. This shows the Billing Charge Mode (BCM), the meter number, meter reading date and number of months. There are four modes:
- Normal: billed on an actual meter reading.
- Average: estimated, not read.
- Detection: a charge for alleged theft or tampering.
- Adjustment: a correction to earlier bills.
Anything other than Normal deserves a closer look.
Charges. Your total is built from:
- Variable charges: your units multiplied by the slab rates. The more units, the higher the rate in some slabs. Tariffs are set by the government and NEPRA and are the same for KE and the other distribution companies.
- Fixed charges: for residential customers, these apply only when monthly use exceeds 300 units.
- FCA (fuel charge adjustment): a NEPRA-approved monthly adjustment for fuel costs. It can be positive or negative and usually appears a couple of months after the month it relates to. You may see more than one FCA line when NEPRA schedules several months together.
- QTA (quarterly tariff adjustment): a NEPRA-approved adjustment every three months.
- Additional surcharge (PHL) and MUCT (KMC), plus income tax, sales tax and electricity duty. KE collects the taxes and duties for the federal and provincial governments.

13-month usage history. A bar chart of your consumption. A circle on a month means a payment was missed or made late.
Amount Due and Previous Due. Amount Due is this month's total including any charges. Previous Due is unpaid arrears carried forward; zero means you are clear.
Back of the bill. A snapshot of your meter at the reading date, your billing and payment history for the past 3 months, and invoices for meter changes, net metering, payment lock and security deposits.
Pay the bill
- Banking app: scan the QR code printed on the bill, or choose K-Electric under bill payments and enter the 13-digit account number.
- KE Live app or KE website: pay by bank account, debit card or credit card.
- Wallets and networks: Easypaisa, JazzCash, 1Link and other e-payment channels.
- In person: bank branches and ATMs of listed banks (including Meezan, Bank Alfalah, Allied, NBP, UBL, Faysal, Askari, Bank Al Habib and Sindh Bank), post offices and NADRA e-Sahulat outlets, using the account number.
Keep the transaction ID until the next bill shows the payment under billing history.
Late payment: what it costs
KE charges a late payment surcharge (LPS) under NEPRA rules:
- 5% if you pay within three days after the due date.
- 10% if you pay after that.
The surcharge is worked out on the billed amount excluding government taxes and duties. On a bill of Rs 20,000 before taxes, paying on day 2 after the due date costs Rs 1,000 extra; paying a week late costs Rs 2,000.
Complaints and a wrong bill
Channels: call 118 or (021) 99000; WhatsApp 0348-0000118; SMS CHAT <your message> to 8119 after registering; email customer.care@ke.com.pk; the KE Live app; or KE's Facebook page. For sparking or broken wires, call 118 immediately.
If you think the bill is wrong:
- Compare the present reading on the bill with your meter today, and check the meter snapshot on the back.
- Check the BCM. An Average bill often corrects itself once an actual reading is taken; a Detection bill needs a formal response.
- Register a billing complaint on 118, WhatsApp or the app, and note the complaint number.
- If it is not resolved, visit a KE Customer Experience Centre with the bill, your CNIC and meter photos.
- If KE still does not fix it, take the complaint to NEPRA, which regulates KE and sets its consumer service rules.
Mistakes that cost Karachi households money
- Paying the after-due-date amount a week late when three days would have cost half the surcharge.
- Ignoring the fixed-charge threshold. Going just past 300 units in a summer month adds fixed charges.
- Using unofficial bill sites that show old bills or charge fees.
- Not updating your details. KE has online forms to update customer details and filer status; use them if your phone number or tax status has changed.
- Letting a DET or Def code sit. Respond quickly with evidence, and keep copies of everything you submit.
