Chevening-ABL Scholarship: 2 fully funded UK master's places a year for Pakistani students from 2027-28
Allied Bank and Chevening will fund two Pakistanis a year in AI, cybersecurity, economics and related fields. The first pair comes from this year's applicants.
Allied Bank Limited (ABL) and the UK government's Chevening programme have launched the Chevening-ABL Scholarship: two fully funded master's places at British universities for Pakistani students each year, for three academic years starting in 2027-28, the British High Commission said in a statement reported by The Express Tribune.
The scholarship at a glance
- Who: Pakistani students going to leading UK universities
- How many: two scholars a year
- For how long: three intakes, starting with 2027-28
- Subjects: artificial intelligence, technology, cybersecurity, digital transformation, economics and financial inclusion
- Funding: described as fully funded; Chevening awards normally cover tuition, living costs and travel
How the first scholars are chosen
There is no separate application for the first round. The first two Chevening-ABL scholars will be picked from people who have already applied for Chevening 2027-28. If you applied this year in one of the listed fields, you are automatically in the pool.
For the next intake, applications for 2028-29 are expected to open in August 2027, as part of the normal Chevening cycle, with successful candidates starting in the UK in 2028. No deadline has been published yet.
Should you apply?
Chevening is the UK government's flagship scholarship and is very competitive. It generally asks for an undergraduate degree, at least two years' work experience, applications to three eligible UK master's courses, and a commitment to return to Pakistan for two years afterwards. Check the current rules on the official Chevening website before you start: the details above for this new award come from the High Commission's statement, and the Tribune report does not list every benefit.
A UK master's usually runs for one year. What the funding is worth in rupees moves with the pound: check today's pound to rupee rate, and use the currency converter to compare what a self-funded course would cost.
