Karachi Green Line BRT extension to Municipal Park: 1.8 km due in 2026-27
Governor Nehal Hashmi visited the Numaish to Jama Cloth stretch and said the federal share of the money has been released.
The 1.8 km extension of Karachi's Green Line bus rapid transit from Numaish Chowrangi to Municipal Park, near Jama Cloth Market, is expected to be finished in the 2026-27 financial year, Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi said on a surprise visit to the site. ProPakistani reported the visit on Monday.
The financial year 2026-27 runs to 30 June 2027, so on the governor's timeline buses could reach Municipal Park by mid-2027 at the latest.
What is being built
Today the Green Line runs from Surjani Town to Numaish. The extension carries it south into the old city, ending near Jama Cloth and the M.A. Jinnah Road commercial belt. Stations are being built along the new stretch; their names and number have not been published.
Hashmi said the federal government has already released its share of the funding and asked the builders to speed up so residents can use the route as soon as possible. No total cost was given.
What it means for commuters
- Saddar and the old city. Riders heading to the cloth, electronics and wholesale markets around M.A. Jinnah Road would no longer need to change at Numaish to a rickshaw or minibus for the last stretch.
- Traffic during work. Construction on a short, crowded corridor usually means diversions; check before you travel in the area during peak hours.
- Running costs. If you drive into Saddar daily, work out what the trip costs you now with our fuel cost calculator and compare it with a BRT fare. Today's fuel price is on the petrol price page.
The bigger picture
The governor credited former prime minister Nawaz Sharif with starting the Green Line and said Karachi still needs more large transport projects. He noted that under the 18th Amendment the federal government's direct role in such projects is limited, but said the centre would keep supporting the city.
Not to be confused with Pakistan Railways' Green Line Express train; for that, see our Green Line train timing and fare guide.
