Karachi Marble City: 300-acre industrial park on Northern Bypass, land at Rs 25 million an acre
Sindh says Pakistan's first marble city will cost $250 million, sell plots on instalments and open investor registration in December.
Pakistan's first Marble City is being built in Karachi: a 300-acre-plus industrial park on the Northern Bypass, with plots selling at an average of about Rs 25 million an acre on instalments, Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said at the pre-launch of the Karachi Marble City Industrial Park on Thursday, Dawn reported. Registration for investors and industrialists is due to open next month (December 2026).
Karachi Marble City at a glance
| Location | Northern Bypass, Karachi |
| Size | More than 300 acres |
| Estimated cost | $250 million (about Rs 69 billion at today's dollar rate of Rs 276.67) |
| Land price | About Rs 25 million an acre on average, instalments offered |

At Rs 25 million an acre, a one-acre unit works out to about Rs 3.1 million a kanal (8 kanals to the acre). A 4-kanal plot, enough for a mid-sized cutting and polishing unit, would cost roughly Rs 12.5 million before any development or transfer charges, which have not been announced. Cheaper power is the pitch
Qasim Naveed Qamar, the Chief Minister's special assistant on investment and public-private partnerships, said the province has a proposal to supply electricity at Rs 20 a unit to industrial projects in Dhabeji and Khairpur, below K-Electric's rates. For a marble unit, where cutting saws and polishers run for hours, the power price decides whether a factory makes money; our electricity bill calculator shows how much a few rupees a unit changes a monthly bill. Whether the Rs 20 rate will also apply in Marble City was not stated.
Why the Northern Bypass
The Northern Bypass runs from the M-9 Karachi-Hyderabad motorway round the north of the city towards the port area, so heavy trucks can reach the park and the docks without crossing the city centre. Marble is heavy and much of it travels to Karachi from quarries in other provinces, so road access to both the motorway and the ports is the point of the site.

Memon called it a project for the whole country: "We are all part of the same country and should encourage each other's positive initiatives," he said.
