Mohammad Amir listed as a British national in the Afghanistan Premier League draft, IPL 2027 talk follows
The former Pakistan pacer is in the APL's Platinum category ($100,000) for Tuesday's draft in Dubai. Reports say he may also enter the IPL auction in Goa on 16 December; nothing is confirmed.

Mohammad Amir has been registered as a British national for the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft in Dubai on Tuesday, 3 November, and reports now link him to the IPL 2027 auction, ProPakistani reported on Monday. His IPL registration has not been confirmed.
What is known
- APL draft: Amir, who lives in England, is listed as a UK national with Pakistan given as his country of residence, in the Platinum category, which carries a fee of $100,000 (about Rs 2.77 crore at today's dollar rate).
- IPL auction: reports say the 34-year-old is expected to register for the IPL auction, scheduled for Goa on 16 December. That part is a report, not an announcement.
- English cricket: he already plays as a local player in the T20 Blast and The Hundred.
Why the passport matters
Pakistani nationals have not played in the IPL for years. A British passport changes Amir's status: former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood took the same route, playing for Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders between 2012 and 2015 on a UK passport.
Registering as a UK national for the APL could also mean he does not need a No-Objection Certificate from the PCB, ProPakistani noted.
Other Pakistanis in the APL draft
More than 30 Pakistani players, including Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Hasan Ali, Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim, have registered for the APL draft. Their places are uncertain: reports say the PCB is unlikely to issue NOCs while relations with Afghanistan are strained, and the Afghanistan Cricket Board says Pakistani players need PCB clearance.
Amir's record
Amir played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is for Pakistan. His last match was against Ireland at the 2024 T20 World Cup in Lauderhill, Florida.
