Pakistan LNG Limited seeks two winter LNG cargoes for December and January, about $100 million each
The two shipments, about Rs 55 billion together, are meant to cover the winter heating peak as spot prices sit near their highest since 2022.
Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), the state company that buys liquefied natural gas for the country, has invited bids for two LNG cargoes for the coming winter, one for December 2026 and one for January 2027, ProPakistani reported on Wednesday 4 November. At current spot prices each cargo would cost about $100 million, or roughly Rs 27.7 billion at today's dollar rate.

Why Pakistan is buying now
Gas demand climbs every winter as homes turn on heaters and geysers, and domestic gas output keeps falling. Spot LNG prices are close to their highest level since 2022, so each cargo is expensive, but the alternative is longer cuts. Supply from Qatar, Pakistan's main long-term seller, has been disrupted: QatarEnergy extended force majeure on LNG for Pakistani buyers to the end of December (our report).
What it means for your gas supply and bill
- Supply hours: SSGC and SNGPL have already announced winter timings for homes, with gas in three windows a day: 6:30 to 9am, 12 to 2:30pm and 6 to 9pm (full schedule). Two extra cargoes help the networks keep to those hours in the coldest weeks.
- RLNG price: imported gas is priced separately as RLNG. OGRA set October's price at $17.33 per MMBtu for SNGPL and $16.40 for SSGC (our report); costlier spot cargoes push that figure up for industry and CNG.
- Home bills: household gas tariffs are set by the government, not cargo by cargo, so your bill does not jump the day a cargo lands. Use the gas bill calculator to check what your meter reading should cost.
We will add the winning bids and prices when PLL announces them.
