Petrol price in Pakistan today: Rs 390.79, diesel jumps to Rs 424.92

The petrol price in Pakistan today is Rs 390.79 per litre, down 43 paisas. High speed diesel is Rs 424.92 per litre, up Rs 3.47. Both rates took effect on Friday, 18 September 2026, under a notification from the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division).

The government put the change down to movement in international Platts rates, premiums and other incidentals. Brent crude eased about 2 to 3 per cent on Thursday to roughly $102 a barrel, but diesel cracks in the Gulf stayed strong, which is why the two fuels moved in opposite directions.

A Suzuki Alto or Cultus owner filling 30 litres saves about Rs 13. That is the whole of the relief.

The 43 paisas do not undo the last nine days

Petrol rose Rs 26.87 a litre between 9 and 17 September, reaching Rs 391.22. Friday's 43 paisa cut gives back less than 2 per cent of that run. Prices are now being revised on a near-daily basis rather than on the old fortnightly cycle, so the number on the pump sign can change between one fill and the next.

Diesel is the one that matters for prices

Diesel moves goods. Almost every truck hauling wheat, vegetables, cement and fuel itself in Pakistan runs on high speed diesel, and so do tube wells in Punjab and Sindh. At Rs 424.92 a litre, diesel is now Rs 34.13 dearer than petrol.

For a Karachi to Lahore haul of roughly 1,200 km, a truck doing 4 km a litre burns 300 litres. That trip now costs Rs 127,476 in fuel, Rs 1,041 more than it did on Thursday. Hauliers pass that on within days, which is how a diesel notification turns into a higher price for tomatoes in Lahore's Sabzi Mandi.

The increase also lands while the dealers' Rs 100 relief scheme is being rolled out at pumps, so what you actually pay at a given pump may differ from the notified rate.

What to do

If you drive a petrol car, there is nothing to time here: 43 paisas is not worth queueing for. If you run a diesel vehicle, a generator or a tube well, fill before the next review rather than after it, because the run of increases since 9 September has been in one direction.
